On Friday 9th February Bosvigo took a squad of 6 boys and 6 girls to compete in the Cornwall Under 11 Schools Table Tennis Championships. Despite several players battling coughs and colds every single player played to the best of their capability and their attitudes were exemplary throughout what was undeniably a long day. Their determined focused practise throughout the year paid off and across the girls and boys tournaments 7 of the 8 semi finalists and eventually all four finalists came from Bosvigo School.
In the girls under 11 final Emma Sellwood showed flashes of her trademark aggressive and high paced attacking game, however, Nora De Cominges’ steady and relentless pressure and extremely consistent shotmaking eventually paid dividends and she won in straight ends.
In the boys under 11 final Callum Edwards and Rory O’Kane shared the first 2 ends as Callum tried to enforce his attacking top spin game on the consistent counter-attacking style of Rory. In what was an incredibly close final and an exhibition of some really high quality table tennis it was consistency that once again won the day as Rory managed to snatch a 3-1 victory in a game that arguably deserved to see a fifth and deciding end.
A special mention also goes to Murray Oakes who stepped in at the last minute and played brilliantly, reaching the quarter finals as a Year 4.
