Autumn Leaves and Sharing the Harvest

Harvest is an exciting time of year that marks the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. We have been exploring this change in season and have looked out for signs of autumn in our environment.

We have enjoyed reading the traditional version of The Enormous Turnip and Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper and The Scarecrow’s Wedding by Julia Donaldson. Did you know, we found a real scarecrow at the bottom of our garden?! We have taken apart pumpkins to investigate what’s inside and have weighed and sorted a variety of seasonal vegetables.

We have become so good at recognising all of our Set 1 letter sounds that we are beginning to learn to blend and read our very first words!

It’s been all about the number 5 these past few weeks and our maths activities have been devoted to sorting groups and comparing quantities to 5.
