The club aims to provide a safe and secure and relaxed environment for the children in our care. We endeavour to provide an atmosphere and activities similar to those found within the home.
Wraparound Care is open from:
7.45am until 8.45am on weekdays during term time
3.15pm and 6.00pm weekdays during term time.
All day between 7.45am and 6.00pm during the school holidays (with the exception of Christmas).
We are based at Teylu Lowen, the children’s centre, located within the school grounds. The centre is used for snacks, crafts, construction, creative play, using the Wii, film watching, cookery and book reading, etc.
We have access to the school’s Chapel Hill playground and the school grassed area for outside play and activities. We are also fortunate to have the use of the newly constructed Foundation Stage play area.
We offer a wide range of activities, incorporating cookery, craft, needlework, board games, reading, imaginary play, construction, sport and much more. During their time at the club children choose activities that suit them best.
A snack and drink are provided each day; however this is not intended to substitute for a main evening meal that the child may receive at home. We promote independence, by encouraging the children to clear away after themselves. We use fresh ingredients and follow statutory guidelines. We even manage to eat some of the vegetables grown in our Wraparound garden whenever possible. Fresh drinking water is available at all times. Individual dietary requirements and parental preferences are met wherever possible. We recognise the importance of healthy nutrition for children delivered in a calm, friendly setting. We also encourage children during the holiday sessions to remain at the table until everyone has finished their lunch and to enjoy this time as a calm yet social opportunity. During the holidays children will need to bring their own packed lunch but snacks and drinks are still provided.
During the holiday sessions we will occasionally organise trips out. These may, however, incur additional costs.
Wraparound is managed by Mrs Austin and is run by other staff who are all employed by the school and most of whom also have a teaching assistant role within the school itself. The aim is to provide a smooth transition between school and wraparound. We also have a bank of staff available to cover absences, when regular staff are ill or attending courses. All our staff have significant experience of working with children. Staff are expected to undertake professional development training. All staff members are checked through the Criminal Records Bureau. We maintain a staff/child ratio of 1:8 for children under the age of eight, in line with statutory requirements.
If you have a query or concern please speak to any member of staff.
Wraparound operates under the same policies and procedures as the school itself, copies of which are held in school, and are available at your request.
